In come the Halcyon Vector Pro fins!

They are innovative and certainly a game-changer for serious recreational divers and the technical diving community, but are they worth their price?

“How muuuuch?! " You exclaim, your voice reaching a crescendo: “Nearly 300 pounds for a pair of fins?! “ Or, as one social media user said, “You’ve got to be kidding me!”

We’re not going to beat around the bush. The new Halcyon Vector Pro Fins are more expensive than we’re all used to.

A pair of traditional Scubapro Jet Fins in colour is currently £205, our reduced online price. Their price, as it is, isn’t much higher than, say, the Hollis F1 s, Scubapro Supernova , or S-Tek s, just under the £200 mark.

Additionally, if the manufacturers can ever have a lasting supply line, copies of the original Scubapro Jet Fins will be more affordable, and they can be acquired for between £160 and £180.

If you compare the Halcyon Vector Pro price with traditional fins or are happy with what you already have, there’s no real point in going the extra mile. These are, simply put, premium fins with a lot of enhancements.

Vector Pro Fins: New Design

Halcyon, a world leader in cutting-edge diving products, aims to take your diving to the next level with the Vector Pro fins, engineered for exceptional performance and versatility.

These fins' cool, slick design isn’t just a cosmetic change. The narrow blade maximises thrust, whether in a wetsuit or drysuit, delivering optimal power and what Halcyon describes as “extraordinary control.”

Made to excel in any environment, these fins allow advanced finning techniques, such as turning and reverse kicking, with precise adjustments during complex underwater manoeuvres.

Their blade construction and shape, referred to as “anti-silting technology” (though you still have to know what you’re doing!) make it easier to control thrust overspray, especially in silty and delicate environments. The Vector Pros' Recyclable Monprene construction makes them flexible, durable, and soft while promising to withstand the harsh underwater environment easily.

In addition, Halcyon’s “Tailored Foot Pocket” is ergonomically designed for comfort and fit, improving your overall diving experience and helping you direct power efficiently.

Innovative Ballast Control

However, the design and construction of these fins aren’t the only aspects that make them stand out. Have you ever encountered a diving fin with an integrated weight system? Well, this is it.

In addition to the Vector Pro's precision-guided shape, these fins incorporate an innovative ballast control system. This system allows stainless steel ballast weights to be placed inside the shell of the fin, well out of the way of your feet, eliminating the need for ankle weights or Gator wraps.

The removable weights enable you to transition from recreational open-water wetsuit diving to technical diving or to travel lighter for warm-water excursions.

Halcyon's weight technology features secure pockets concealed on both sides of each fin and purpose-built high-grade stainless steel bullet weights (referred to by the manufacturer as “weight slugs”) that simply slide in. The slugs go in and out quickly and are secured in position with a simple little screw pin. An O-ring on each weight ensures they cannot accidentally fall out during removal and replacement and have to be intentionally pulled out instead.

One significant advantage of this weight system is that the cavities on either side of the fin make the whole structure smooth and uniform, as it should be. Thus, there is no line trapping or similar issues.

It’s worth mentioning Halcyon Vector Pro fin ballast control offers six adjustment options, allowing you to fine-tune the setting from slightly positive to decidedly negative. Halcyon states that the system allows for a cavity that can be upgraded in the future. What those upgrades will be is yet to be seen.

Adjustable Spring Heels

Some twenty-plus years ago, we were one of the rare dive centres to focus solely on providing future-proof Jet Fins to divers. At the time, all fins came with the dreaded rubber straps—easy to snap. So, we also had somewhat costly stainless steel spring straps to replace them, which came in different sizes to match the diver’s foot regardless of the fin size.

The popularity of SS spring straps brought on a new era in production. One after another, manufacturers started replacing rubber straps with spring straps, lowering the cost for users but also restricting sizing. It would be no good if the fin fit you, but the strap length didn’t. And even if it did with drysuit boots, it could be no use with neoprene ones.

Halcyon has overcome this barrier with the Vector Pro's fully adjustable spring heel straps. Using a Phillips-end screwdriver, you can remove the strap and adjust its size to match your needs by moving the barrel pin using an Allen key. This system allows eight (8) size adjustments ranging from 30.5cm to 35.6cm.

From wetsuit to drysuit diving, with foot pocket sizes ranging from UK 4 to UK 11, this innovative strap system appears to cover every eventuality unless you have size 12 or 13 boots.

Halcyon Vector Pro Alternatives

As mentioned at the start of this introduction, the Halcyon Vector Pro Fins, despite their game-changing difference, don't come cheap. Their 2025 release price of £292 is £87 more than our current (as of this review) reduced price of the Scubapro Jet Fins in colour.

In our view, they are mainly a challenge to the Jet Fin, the Apeks RK3 series, the Fourth Element Tech Fins and possibly (somehow less popular) Hollis F1s.

With that said, all the above but for the Vector Pro are similar in design, built on the properties of the very original and traditional Jet Fin with some variations.

You'd be paying for this fin's innovative features when paying the extra for the Vector Pro. That is likely going to be the deciding factor for many divers.

Do you want a traditional fin and just get on with it, or a totally new concept in underwater propulsion? A pair of fins boasting:

  • Full Versatility
  • Precision-Guided Shape
  • Anti-Silt Design
  • Tailored Foot Pocket
  • Inventive 6-Option Ballast Control System
  • 8-Size Adjustable Spring Heel Straps
  • Optional SS Weight Inserts
  • Recyclable Monprene Construction

Whatever your preference and decision, the one thing you can be sure about is that - so long as the manufacturers can supply them - we have a pair of quality technical fins that will suit you. Just look up our Online Fins Section.

Happy finning!
