Our brick-and-mortar store Underwater Explorers based on Portland, Dorset is open to visitors Friday through Mondays including bank holidays. Although the store front is closed to visits Tuesday through Thursdays, our online store is staffed 7 days a week.

Why Portland?

We’re located on the Isle of Portland (in Dorset) because Portland has been one of the most popular scuba diving locations in the United Kingdom even before we set up operations here back in the year 2000.

On one side, we’re minutes away from the sheltered waters of Portland Marina and Harbour, while on the other, it’s just a brief walk to reach our famous scuba diving destination Chesil Cove and start of the 16-mile-long Chesil Beach.  

Portland’s location makes it ideal for scuba diving, freediving, snorkelling and other surface water sports activities.

Alongside dive clubs, many instructors and dive schools travel here to train and offer scuba diving certification ranging from open water diver to mixed-gas tech diving or rebreather diving levels.

Whether you’re doing a boat dive from Portland Marina or Castletown or a shore dive at Chesil Cove, Portland is well known for offering many possibilities: Reef diving to wreck diving and night diving, underwater photography or underwater videography. Apeks Luna Mini: Compact Powerhouse

The Apeks Luna Mini is a compact torch with a punch. It boasts 1000 lumens max output. Furthermore, it has three power settings. Additionally, a USB rechargeable battery completes the package.

The Luna Mini is compact and lightweight. Consequently, you can use it as a primary or backup torch.

No need exists to open the torch for recharging.  This, therefore, reduces the possibility of leaks. The Mini Luna also comes in an Apeks-branded reusable zippered case. This case, moreover, protects the torch during storage and travel.

Three power settings and SOS

The Apeks Luna Mini Torch has three power settings. Firstly, these settings optimise burn time. Specifically, the high setting offers 1.5 hours at 1000 lumens. Secondly, the medium setting at 500 lumens provides 3 hours of burn time. Thirdly, the low setting at 250 lumens lights up to 6 hours.

Furthermore, the Luna Mini features a dedicated SOS Strobe. This strobe is for emergency use in or out of the water.

Intelligent Thermal Management (ITM)

Patented ITM technology combats LED efficiency loss at high temperatures. Furthermore, ITM maintains optimum output for maximum efficiency.

There's an optimum temperature for peak balance. This balance is between light output and battery burn time. However, beyond this, LEDs become inefficient.

The ITM's intelligent circuitry monitors LED temperature. Subsequently, it adjusts power accordingly. This, therefore, ensures LEDs remain at their optimum efficiency. The power adjustment doesn't noticeably drop light output. Instead, it maximises burn time.
