Apeks RK3 HD Fins - Black
These Apeks RK3 HD Fins are stiffer than standard RK3 fins. A higher-density material makes them negatively buoyant. Consequently, they are ideal for drysuit diving.
Furthermore, the Apeks RK3 HD fins are based on a popular design. This design was one of the first vented rubber fins. It became popular amongst military and professional divers. Indeed, it has been the standard issue fin. Military, special ops, coast guard, and public safety divers have used them for decades.
Key Features of Apeks RK3 Fins
- Short, wide blade: Provides maximum forward thrust. It also maintains great manoeuvrability.
- Durable blade material: This material withstands tough environments. It handles extreme temperatures and abuse.
- Vented blade design: Reduces resistance on the upstroke. It also enhances thrust on the downstroke. Additionally, vents eliminate vortexes. These vortexes can occur along the blade's back. This is similar to how split fins eliminate them.
- Grommet holes: Two large grommet holes accommodate most carabiners. This makes storing the fins easy. You can conveniently store them while accessing the dive site.
- Spring straps: Spring straps come as standard. A custom-designed buckle holds them in the optimum position.
- Simple replacement: A simple push-pin design allows easy replacement of springs.
Fin Sizing
Apeks didn’t give the RK3 fins a shoe size range, as this can be very misleading. The environment that an RK3 HD is used in will tend to dictate the size of the fin that you need.
For example, do you dive in a warm environment wearing wetsuit boots, or are you walking across pebbled beaches and wearing a drysuit and rigid dry boots? Both forms of footwear may be a UK size 9 but will take up different amounts of space in the fin foot pocket.
Fin sizing depends on the type and style of the boots. The below size guide is only approximate.
Boot Style | Small | Medium | Large | Super/XL |
Soft Boot | UK <5 | UK 5 - 7 | UK 7 - 10 | UK 9 - 13 |
Hard Sole | UK <4 | UK 4 - 6 | UK 7 - 9 | UK 9 - 13 |
Drysuit Boot | UK <4 | UK 4 - 5 | UK 6 - 8 | UK 9 -12 |
