Why Portland?

We’re located on the Isle of Portland (in Dorset) because Portland has been one of the most popular scuba diving locations in the United Kingdom even before we set up operations here back in the year 2000.

On one side, we’re minutes away from the sheltered waters of Portland Marina and Harbour, while on the other, it’s just a brief walk to reach our famous scuba diving destination Chesil Cove and start of the 16-mile-long Chesil Beach.  

Portland’s location makes it ideal for scuba diving, freediving, snorkelling and other surface water sports activities.

Alongside dive clubs, many instructors and dive schools travel here to train and offer scuba diving certification ranging from open water diver to mixed-gas tech diving or rebreather diving levels.

Whether you’re doing a boat dive from Portland Marina or Castletown or a shore dive at Chesil Cove, Portland is well known for offering many possibilities: Reef diving to wreck diving and night diving, underwater photography or underwater videography. The RK3 HD fins are based on one of the first vented rubber fins sold in North America and popular among military and professional divers. The design has been the standard gear issue fin for military, special ops, coast guard, and public safety divers for decades.

Features of Apeks RK3 HD Fins


Short wide blade provides maximum forward thrust while maintaining great manoeuvrability.
 The blade material is designed to hold up to the toughest environments, temperatures, and abuse. 

Vented blade design reduces resistance on the upstroke and enhances thrust on the downstroke. 
The vents also eliminate vortexes that can occur along the back of the blade much in the same way split fins eliminate the vortex.

Two large grommet holes designed to fit most carabiners for easy storage of the fins while accessing the dive site.

Spring straps as standard. Custom designed buckle holds spring straps in optimum position.
 Simple push pin design allows simple replacement of springs if necessary.

Fin sizing

Apeks didn’t give the RK3 HD fin a shoe size range as this can be very misleading. The environment that an RK3 HD is used in will tend to dictate the size of the fin that you need.

For example, do you dive in a warm environment wearing wetsuit boots, or are you walking across pebbled beaches and wearing a drysuit and rigid dry boots? Both forms of footwear may be a UK size 9 but will take up different amounts of space in the fin foot pocket.
