Our brick-and-mortar store Underwater Explorers based on Portland, Dorset is open to visitors Friday through Mondays including bank holidays. Although the store front is closed to visits Tuesday through Thursdays, our online store is staffed 7 days a week.

Why Portland?

We’re located on the Isle of Portland (in Dorset) because Portland has been one of the most popular scuba diving locations in the United Kingdom even before we set up operations here back in the year 2000.

On one side, we’re minutes away from the sheltered waters of Portland Marina and Harbour, while on the other, it’s just a brief walk to reach our famous scuba diving destination Chesil Cove and start of the 16-mile-long Chesil Beach.  

Portland’s location makes it ideal for scuba diving, freediving, snorkelling and other surface water sports activities.

Alongside dive clubs, many instructors and dive schools travel here to train and offer scuba diving certification ranging from open water diver to mixed-gas tech diving or rebreather diving levels.

Whether you’re doing a boat dive from Portland Marina or Castletown or a shore dive at Chesil Cove, Portland is well known for offering many possibilities: Reef diving to wreck diving and night diving, underwater photography or underwater videography. Anything other than cave diving is possible here.

The latest evolution of the Frameless Mask uniquely combines two grades of silicone moulded together to create the most comfortable mask in the water.

Along with all the features that made the original Atomic Frameless Mask popular with avid divers who want a wide, clear view, the Atomic Frameless 2 Mask is even more comfortable over hours of dive time. For a soft touch, a special sealing flange is co-moulded with a softer grade of silicone.

Atomic Frameless 2 Mask has Ultraclear Lenses

Atomic Frameless 2 Mask offers a new standard feature never seen or “seen through” before in a diving mask. They call them UltraClear lenses.

What makes UltraClear special?

Did you ever notice that normal dive mask lenses have a green tint to the glass? To see this tint, put your existing mask up to a piece of white paper and see for yourself. The green tint results from iron impurities left over in lower-quality “float” or window-type glass. That green tint distorts true colours and blocks out some light that reaches the eye.

UltraClear is a new and exciting optical quality glass with exceptional clarity, high light transmission, and no colour distortion. The exceptionally high light transmittance and lack of distortion in the UltraClear lens maximises the light available for improved visual acuity, especially underwater in low light conditions.
