Why Portland?

We’re located on the Isle of Portland (in Dorset) because Portland has been one of the most popular scuba diving locations in the United Kingdom even before we set up operations here back in the year 2000.

On one side, we’re minutes away from the sheltered waters of Portland Marina and Harbour, while on the other, it’s just a brief walk to reach our famous scuba diving destination Chesil Cove and start of the 16-mile-long Chesil Beach.

Portland’s location makes it ideal for scuba diving, freediving, snorkelling and other surface water sports activities.

Check out how many wrecks we have around here by clicking on Scimitar Diving's Wreck & Dive Sites chart!

Alongside dive clubs, many instructors and dive schools travel here to train and offer scuba diving certification ranging from open water diver to mixed-gas tech diving or rebreather diving levels.

Whether you’re doing a boat dive from Portland Marina or Castletown or a shore dive at Chesil Cove, Portland is well known for offering many possibilities: Reef diving to wreck diving and night diving, underwater photography or underwater videography. Anything other than cave diving is possible here.

Likely being the best-stocked diving shop in the UK, at Underwater Explorers we offer in-store scuba diving equipment advice and sales, as well as gas fills, to locals and visitors (read About Us).

But... If you’re googling “scuba diving shop near me” like some, look no further, there's DirDirect online.

Here at DirDirect, we list our cutting-edge equipment for worldwide delivery and we’ve got you covered whatever your level of diving: We’re your local dive store wherever you are in the world.

All that with over 20 years of experience especially in technical diving, from training to equipment, advice and sales.

The Shark Artemis Light is an incredibly powerful umbilical underwater torch produced by the Swedish company Shark Dive Gear.

With its max 6000-lumen 6º centre beam and boasting the same light head as the Shark Artemis Handheld Torch, this light is able to light up any dive site as proven by vigorous testing in diverse, deep and cold conditions by Team Reel Diving.

With a battery capacity of 95Wh, the torch can provide you with hours and hours of light. Even at its max setting, Shark Artemis burn time reaches 3 hours - though 50% at 3000 Lumen with approximately 7 hours burn time is plenty bright enough, and we doubt you'll be diving for anything more than the 20+ hours the torch can support on 20% setting.

While burn times vary by temperature, as all divers know, cold conditions do not affect Lion batteries as much as others, and we're very impressed this torch comes with a battery pack consisting of 12 high-quality Panasonic cells of the type used in laptops that are known to be able to support computers for years on.

The Artemis is the most powerful primary dive light in our arsenal with a robust reliable design, and 3 power settings providing extremely long burn times even on max power.

SHARK ARTEMIS MANUAL

Shark Artemis Light has a strong design

Every effort has been made to ensure the Shark Artemis Light can consistently meet and even exceed its maximum depth rating.

The glass (lens) on the light head reflector is held in place with a circular cover boasting six screws as if made for commercial operations, ensuring minimum flexibility of the glass as pressure grows. The threads on either connection point are deep and three o-rings on both sides ensure a secure connection.

The opposite male-female ends of a reliable and strong umbilical cable connect the Shark Artemis light head to the battery canister. The umbilical cable can be completely removed from both the light head and battery canister, with each connection point, then protected with separate screw caps.

Additional transport safety comes with a width and height adjustable Goodman Handle that can fold down on the light head to protect the reflector and to prevent the magnetic switch from accidentally being switched on there is even a screw-in removable lock.

The two jubilee clips on side of the canister hold a robust 2-inch wide webbing loop to be used for waist harness mounting and are protected by a rubber coating.
